Fried rye bread croutons with garlic

A crunchy snack of rye bread and garlic — a classic Lithuanian treat with beer or dinner.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Thaw the bread at room temperature and cut it into sticks about 1 cm thick.
  2. Crush the garlic and mix it with the vegetable oil.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the garlic oil.
  4. Heat a frying pan and fry the bread on both sides until golden.
  5. Sprinkle the croutons with salt as soon as they come off the pan.
  6. Grate the cheese and sprinkle it over the hot croutons before serving.
